cup margarine or butter -- softened  
cup shortening  
cup all-purpose flour*

Coconut-Almond Topping -- (recipe follows)  
COCONUT-ALMOND TOPPING  
eggs

cup shredded coconut  
cup chopped almonds

teaspoon baking powder  
teaspoon vanilla  
teaspoon salt

Heat oven to 350º. Mix brown sugar, margarine and shortening. Stir in  
flour. Press in ungreased baking pan, 13 × 9 × 2 inches. Bake 10 minutes.  
Prepare Coconut-Almond Topping. Beat eggs; stir in remaining ingredients.  
Spread Coconut-Almond Topping over baked layer.  
Bake until golden brown, about 2 minutes. Cool slightly; cut into bars,  
about 3 × 1 inch.
